What is your name and aim?
I feel like you know all my names. Haha. However to keep it offish. Name from Birth: Jonathan Quamina A.K.A Sir Darkseid, Johnny 5. Mr. No Days Off.
Where have you from, lived and currently reside? How has growing up in these places effected you and your music?
Born In Trinidad & Tobago. That will always be my home. Next to that, New York took me in with open fucking arms and I will never turn my back on it. And much to few's popular belief, it's where I belong. New York has had a major influence on my music. Shit, as far as I'm concerned it's the birthplace of Hip Hop. The mecca. It's in my style, my delivery, my flow. Almost every aspect of how I write. With that being said, currently living in Cali's bay area definitely shows in my music as well. I feel as though I've been blessed enough to live in both of the major influences of Hip Hop. When you really think about it. East Coast and West Coast made Hip Hop popular. Everywhere else just walking in the foot steps of giants. That's not to say that other places haven't changed the game...that's just the honest truth that without New York & California, there would be no game to change. PERIOD!
If you could name one album which really inspired you and had an impact on your life what would it be and why?
There is no ONE album that brought me to this passion. What I will say is that KRS-One's self titled Album was the first time I acknowledged Hip Hop in America. Gotta remember being from the Islands I mostly only cared about Reggae, Soca, and Calypso. So when I came to California, a DJ by the alias of Cornbread turned me onto Krs-One and the rest is history. If I'm to name a particular influence that made me pursue this passion. It'd be MF DOOM, Aesop Rock, and Jedi Mind Tricks. Point/Blank/Period. They are Hip Hop in it's truest form. Story tellers, lyricist, and true passion behind their words. They showed me that you can do more than talk about shit!
Any interesting run ins with famous rappers or anyone from the industry?
I've got a ton of run in. From real life meeting Chester French and Travie McCoy from Gym Class Heroes. To knowing Sway very limitedly. To twitter fights and being blocked by artist like Fabolous, Chris Brown, and "Lord" Jamar to name a few. I've been interviewed by the Jace Hall Show and followed on Twitter by RocNation when they established. Hell The Source Magazine threatened to sue me because I'm more relevant than they've ever been when I hosted a radio broadcast by the name of Unsigned Hype. I don't measure my accomplishments by who I've meet or who has acknowledged me. However, it's damn fucking cool.
What are your current and future plans with your music?
In the words of the Joker! Do I look like a guy with a plan. I just do. And that's real! I don't have plans. I make music that I enjoy. If others enjoy it, fucking sick. If they don't, they can go fuck themselves. I've been the Best In The World at this and I always will be. With or without the consensus of the masses. I have an apparel line I'm working on. A book I'm looking to publish, and much more. I'm not just Hip Hop, I'm not just Nerdcore...I am entertainment. I challenge anyone who thinks they can toe to toe with me in anything creative. Because I guarantee they get school. Plain and simple.
what is your favourite song you have created?
My favorite songs are many of mine. However Wake Up and Fortune are two of my FAVORITE RELEASED records. Because I have a lot of music. A lot unreleased. Wake Up because it truly showcases my prowess of being a force in the Nerdcore Genre. The only things close to it is We Make Em Say and Too Pokelitcal. BOTH by me. Fortune, because it showcases the other side of me. The human behind the persona that I rarely allow to shine.
In closing, as you don't have a closing question, and I expect you to publish this WORD FOR WORD! I am one of the illest lyricist this world may never know. I am the BEST in the world at Freestyle and am a catalyst in Nerdcore. If you wanna be great at what you do you need to believe that you are and then BE IT! I don't say it because I think I am. I say it because I am it! Anyone wanna test that, I welcome any and all challenges. Thanks always for the beats and for the opportunity to get myself out there more. One!
Thank you for the interview, and there you have it, Sir Darkseid, Go check out his many mixtapes and songs on Audiomack and Soundcloud!
