We talk about 6obby,Oliver Francis and more.
How did you get started in music?
I've been interested in music since I was in elementary school. The first time I ever started "producing" was back in 4th grade, I had a game on PS2 for making music. I started playing guitar in 2008, I've played in deathcore bands, pop punk bands, indie bands, and eventually got into producing EDM and dubstep around 2010. This eventually evolved into producing trap and starting to rap. So, my roots in music go way back and cross many genres.
What inspired your style?
Oliver Francis is definitely a big inspiration. I love his vocal style and the beats he produces. But along with this, I'm also hugely inspired by indie and emo bands. What I do is simply take that same emo vibe, and turn it into trap/cloudrap.
What are some your favourite artists and why?
Oliver Francis has to be one of my favorites of course. Aside from him though, YvngCrow is another favorite, the vibe on everything he releases is so dope, both his wavy stuff and his hard stuff. I'm also a huge fan of American Football, Algernon Cadwallader, Snowing, Owen, Park Jefferson, and a ton of other emo bands like that. Those bands have a huge impact on my life and I relate so much to the things they sing about.
What other cloud rappers do you hope to collaborate with?
I know this makes me sound like such a fanboy, but I hope to work with Oliver Francis sometime, somehow. Aside from that, Yung Pinch if I ever get the chance. And I definitely want to collab again with YvngCrow and Charles Quirk. I dig their vibe so much.
I see you also produce, What software do you use and how do you go about making a beat?
I use FL Studio. I usually spend a lot of time listening to new indie, emo, and post-rock bands. While I listen, I keep an ear out for nice melodies to sample. When I hear something amazing, I get inspired to make a beat with it. Sometimes I chop up and rearrange the sample, sometimes I leave it as is. But once I have it, it's easy to lay down the drums and get in the vibe of it. The 808 is usually the last thing I add, since I like to keep an open mind when it comes to finding the right bass melody.
How did you go about collaborating with 6obby?
6obby hit me up to buy a feature for "Worries". He asked me to produce the beat and do the first verse. People seem to like when we work together, so since then we've continued to collab from time to time.
My favourite track is Stardew, How long did it take to create Bedridden?
Glad you like it! The Bedridden EP took about a month and a half to create. I had a ton of other songs that I had planned for release on the EP, but they didn't make the cut. I only wanted to release my best on that EP. But chances are, I'll probably take inspiration from some of those unused ideas in some of my new songs.
Any interesting run ins with famous artists at all??
I'm from a somewhat small town, so I haven't really had any run ins with famous artists. Although, Oliver Francis has DM'd me on Twitter a few times to ask if he could use a couple samples I used in my beats, if that counts for anything.
